Classpass

ClassPass sells yoga spots studios were going to waste anyway. A yoga studio gets $12 instead of zero for an empty seat. ClassPass keeps the spread. Airline yield management applied to boutique fitness.

A boutique spinning class costs $35. A yoga studio charges $28 per drop-in. A boxing gym wants $40. Class Pass sells access to all three for $99 monthly. The studios lose money on every class pass visit. They do it anyway because empty spots earn zero. Class Pass launched in 2013 by selling unused inventory. A yoga studio with 20 spots at a 7 p.m. class fills $14. Six-sit empty. Class Pass buys those spots at $12 each and sells them to members who pay 99 monthly for credits. The studio gets 12 instead of zero. Class Pass keeps the spread. The unit economics work because Class Pass is selling perishable inventory that expires when the class starts. By 2020, Class Pass operated in 30 countries with 30,000 studio partners.
