Beaten Zone

Beaten Zone is the elliptical patch of ground where a burst of machine gunfire lands. A serial Brisbane technology founder named his Venture Capital Fund after it. Steve Baxter founded the South Australian Internet provider SE Net and co-founded Pipe Networks before backing more than 90 Australian companies as an angel investor. In 2023 he registered Beaten Zone Venture Partners in Brisbane and submitted it for a rare tax-advantaged early stage venture capital partnership structure. Beaten Zone funds only Australian sovereign defence and space technology across the five warfighting domains of sea, land, air, space and cyber. The structure was finally approved in June 2025, giving its limited partners a 10% capital gains tax offset on contributions and capital gains tax-free treatment on eligible exits.
