Graduate Architect

Cannot legally call yourself an Architect until you pass the exam. 5 years of study plus 3,300 supervised hours.

Grand Designs and the Block made architects look like the people sketching ideas on napkins and watching them get built. The reality is closer to a 24-year-old graduate at a Sydney firm, drafting the construction documentation in Revit for a residential tower the senior architect designed two years ago. Becoming an architect in Australia takes five years of study, a three-year accredited bachelor degree plus a two-year master of architecture from one of 19 approved universities. After graduation, the work begins. A graduate cannot legally call themselves an architect until they have logged a minimum of 3,300 hours of supervised practical experience and passed the architectural practice examination. That takes a minimum of two more years.
