Junior Graphic Designer
No licence. No regulator. A portfolio of 15 pieces. The 3 year Bachelor behind every logo on the high street.
Ever wondered who actually designed the logo on the coffee cup, the menu in the cafe, and the billboard down the street? A junior graphic designer, two years into their first agency job. The standard pathway is a three year Bachelor of Design or Visual Communication from a university like Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Queensland University of Technology or the University of Technology Sydney. There is no licence and no regulator. The portfolio is the gatekeeper. First year is foundation work in typography, image making, layout and composition. Years two and three develop specialisations across branding, motion, information design and interaction. Most students finish with a capstone project and a portfolio of fifteen to twenty pieces. The agency day starts with a brief. Building five alternate layout variations of a twelve page brochure in Adobe InDesign on a three column grid.
