The barista writes your name on the cup, so you feel recognized. None of this is accidental. The business model prints money because of what that psychology enables. A customer who comes in for the atmosphere orders a drink, then a pastry, then a second drink. They return tomorrow because the routine feels good. Starbucks has over 38,000 stores in 86 countries, generating over $36 billion in annual revenue. Gross margins exceed 70% on beverages. But the real financial engine is the Starbucks Rewards app, which holds nearly $2 billion in stored value at any given time.
