Tiffany Masterson was not a chemist, not a beauty executive, not a dermatologist. She was a mother in Houston who kept breaking out from every skincare product she tried. In twenty twelve, she started investigating ingredient lists and noticed six categories appearing repeatedly in products that irritated her skin. She called them the Suspicious Six. Essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances, and sodium lauryl sulfate. She formulated an entire skincare line excluding all of them. Fragrance alone was considered non negotiable in prestige beauty. Masterson stripped it out and charged premium prices anyway, starting at ninety dollars for a serum.
