The founder of one of the most successful color cosmetics brands in history sold her company to Estee Lauder, walked aOuai after 25 years, waited out her non-compete and launched a second brand from scratch at age 62. Bobby Brown, a freelance makeup artist based in New York, launched her first brand in 1991 with 10 nude lipsticks. The thesis was specifically anti-trend. Every competing brand was chasing neon eye shadow and high gloss lip for the final years of the 1980s. Bobby's 10 shades were all versions of a woman's own lips in different lighting. Estee Lauder acquired the company in 1995 for a reported $74.5 million. Bobby stayed on as chief creative officer for more than 20 years before departing in 2016.
