A Stanford stem cell scientist’s $290 face cream sold $250M in its first three years.
A Stanford-trained stem cell researcher with 30 years of burn wound medicine experience launched a two-product skin care line in 2018. One bottle costs $280. It routinely sells out. Professor Augustinas Bader is a German physician who spent his career developing a protein complex to promote skin regeneration in severe burn victims at German hospitals. The protein complex was originally developed without any commercial product in mind. In 2018, Bader partnered with an entrepreneur named Charles Rosier to productize the complex as a consumer skin care cream, calling it simply the cream. Cosmetics claims are regulated, but marketing is loose, and most luxury skin care brands make vague claims about anti-aging that cannot be substantiated.
