Frederic Malle
Why this perfume house releases new scents only when its founder approves.
In 2000, a Paris perfumer did something almost nobody in the industry had done before. He put the name of the person who composed each fragrance on the front of the bottle, larger than his own brand name. Frederick Malle is the grandson of Serge Heffler-Lewis, the founder of Parfums Christian Diehl. In 2000, he opened his own Paris boutique, Edichon de Parfums, with a specific thesis. The great fragrance compositions of the 20th century with a work of named perfumers like Ernest Beau, for Chanel No. 5, and John Karls for various Dior scents, yet the perfumers themselves were anonymous. Malle invited nine legendary perfumers to compose without commercial restriction and branded each bottle with the perfumer's name.
