Granddaughter of Dutch beekeepers built a $300 honey-infused haircare brand.
A beauty influencer from Amsterdam with Iranian heritage launched a hair care brand in 2015 using a single unusual ingredient pulled directly from her own father's beekeeping operation. Negan Misalahi grew up in a family that had operated a working bee farm in the Dutch countryside for more than four generations. Her Instagram audience, which grew past 6 million followers, had watched her mother use the family Hanni as a hair treatment for years. In 2015, she and her partner, Moritz Steber, launched Jizu, named after her mother, with a single product, Hanni-infused hair oil, priced at around $65. The Hanni came from her family's own hives, branded as Misalahi Hanni. Most beauty brands source active ingredients through third-party chemical suppliers, which means their ingredient stories are interchangeable across dozens of brands.
