A 2014 Korean-French BB cream sold 1M units in its first year.

Two Korean-trained formulators launched a skincare brand in Paris in 2008, with a specific commercial thesis. They would combine Korean formulation technology with a French sensibility and export the combination into Western prestige retail. Catalan Berenny and Ho Jin Li had worked inside Korea's OEM skincare manufacturing ecosystem. The contract lab system that had developed BB creams, sheet masks and essence textures decades before Western brands adopted them. The pair founded a Borean in Paris in 2008, positioning the brand as Korean beauty translated for a Parisian customer. The packaging used French typography and French product names, but the formulations were engineered in Korean labs, which meant the brand had access to texture technology competing European houses lacked. The geographical arbitrage was a short window of competitive advantage.
