Violettee Sarah had been Gelland's global makeup artistic director for three years when she resigned in 2020 to launch her own Paris brand. The decision cost her a reported seven-figure annual salary. The brand she launched is now estimated to be worth multiples of that. Sarah had grown up in southwestern France, trained in makeup artistry through her 20s, and built a YouTube audience in the mid-2010s, posting French beauty tutorials that grew into the millions. Esta Lauda's Gwelland division named her global artistic director in 2017, a role that gave her platform authority, but little ownership over the product she represented. In 2020, she resigned to launch Violettee FR independently, partnering with beauty incubator luxury brand partners to co-found the house with her name on every product.
