Philip Kingsley
A Mayfair trichologist treated Audrey Hepburn for 60 years. The clinical files became the brand.
Philip Kingsley was a Jewish East-End Londoner who opened a tricology clinic in Mayfair in 1957 and spent seven decades diagnosing scalp conditions before his clinical products ever went to prestige retail. Kingsley trained as a tricologist, a specialist in the medical study of the scalp and hair. During the 1950s and opened his first clinic at Green Street, Mayfair, in 1957. The clinic treated hair loss, dandruff, scalp psoriasis and other scalp conditions for wealthy London clientele, including Audrey Hepburn and Diana Princess of Wales. His signature in clinic treatment, the elasticizer pre-shampoo conditioner, was developed in 1974 specifically to restore elasticity to Hepburn's hair after film production damage. The product stayed clinic only for decades before formal retail distribution.
