Malin + Goetz

A Chelsea apothecary built unisex skincare in clean white bottles couples could share.

Matthew Mailen and Andrew Goetz opened a pharmacy-inspired apothecry shop in New York's Chelsea neighborhood in 2004 selling minimalist unisex skincare. The brand has grown into prestige retail distribution globally, while the original Chelsea store still operates. Milan had previously worked at Keels before the L'Oreal acquisition, and Goetz came from the design industry. They co-founded Mallen Plus Goetz in 2004 with a specific positioning. Ex-skincare formulated to dermatologist appropriate standards, but packaged in clean white bottles that men would not be embarrassed to display, and women would not find too clinical. The first Chelsea store on 7th Avenue was designed to feel like a neighborhood pharmacy rather than a cosmetics counter.
