A single fragrance launched in 2003 by a fashion designer more known for red carpet gowns than perfumory, became one of the most referenced prestige musk compositions of the decade. The designer had no prior fragrance experience. The fragrance now generates more revenue than the fashion house. Narciso Rodriguez founded his fashion house in New York in 1997 after stints at Calvin Klein and Taruti. His gowns were worn by Carolyn Bessett Kennedy and Michelle Obama, building a refined minimalist aesthetic associated with the house. Butte Prestige International secured the fragrance license and launched for her in 2003, composed by Christine Nagel and Francis Cook D'Iyane, around a modern interpretation of musk that had almost disappeared from prestige fragrance compositions.
