Snapchat generated 4.6 billion in revenue in 2023 entirely from advertising. AR lenses that let users try on sunglasses convert at four times the rate of standard video ads. The interactivity transforms the ad from content to be skipped into a toy to be played with. AR generates six seconds of engagement compared to 1.7 for standard mobile video. Despite engagement, Snap's average revenue per user was $11, one quarter of matters.
